A PLACE TO FEEL COMFORTABLE

Hobart Music School

“Music bursts out of class, followed by the silence of intense concentration and the roar of laughter”

Our students come into their own between Grade Seven and Twelve. The studio is a place that feels like home, giving students room to build their skills in interpretation and storytelling in a safe environment. Classes have the feel of a ‘Glee Club’ with impromptu performances and jam sessions regularly breaking out.

Students become very confident in their performances, shining on stage and for those who really want it, making the decision to pursue a career in the Performing Arts.

PERFORMANCE CLASSES

GRADE SEVEN TO TWELVE

These classes make the transition from primary to high school and then College easier, with existing friendships continuing and the provision of a safe place to learn while students deal with the changes high school brings.

  • A space where teens feel comfortable, safe and accepted by other kids for who they are
  • A place where they have permission to be silly – especially important for socially conscious teens
  • Towards Grade 9, students start to step into leadership and mentoring roles where they can shine
  • As skills develop, students can head towards a professional performance level for their age
  • They become great team players, equally comfortable performing in a group or as a soloist
  • Students start performing pieces with understanding and feeling
  • Preparation for auditions to become the lead in college and community musicals
  • A level of study that becomes a bridging course between College and University

SINGING FOR DANCE CLASSES

GRADE SEVEN TO TWELVE

The Singing for Dance program is a 45 minute high-energy class designed to help kids who study dance sing better in their Song and Dance performances and at their dancing concerts. Students learn how to sing safely, how to make a great sound, how to work with backing tracks and how to create a great Song and Dance performance.

Students will have a showcase performance during the year and can extend their learning through personalised lessons in voice. This class is perfect for students who take dance lessons at any of the dance schools in Hobart and can’t fit in our full performing arts program.

Students already enrolled in a Performance Class + singing lesson package are able join this class free of charge.

ADVANCED PERFORMANCE CLASS

There is a big jump from the family friendly music and drama offered in high school to what is expected when students hit College, and even more so for those who want to audition for the big performing arts Universities. To bridge that gap ExitLeft offer an advanced College/Uni class that pushes the envelope. A safe space where our students can learn how to confidently deliver music and scripts that have adult concepts, build believable characters and get advice and feedback on their College monologues and performance pieces.

This class is free for students who are enrolled in a Performance Class, otherwise it is $36 pw. Students who haven’t studied with the Academy before will need to book an assessment to determine eligibility for this class.

THE STAGE SCHOOL PROJECT

What is ExitLeft most famous for? our shows! Well, we have been hard at work preparing some fantastic shows that your children can be part of with our 2017 Stage School project. This fast-tracked theatre performance training project gives students the chance to expand their skills in singing, acting, choreography and stagecraft culminating in a fully staged show at the Peacock Theatre. Anyone who is participating in an ExitLeft Performance class can sign up with auditions only to determine who is playing which part. Stage School provides an intensive boost to performance skills and gives the kids the chance to shine in an ExitLeft show!

The Stage School Project is available to students enrolled in a Performance or Singing for Dance class.
