QUALITY PERFORMING ARTS

ABOUT US

ExitLeft has been entertaining Tasmanians with live theatre and fostering young talent through performing arts training for more than 20 years.

“Our vision is to raise the standard of education for all Tasmanians
through engagement in the performing arts.”

The quality of ExitLeft’s performing arts training arm has resulted in a regular stream of students receiving offers into the leading performing arts courses (VCA, WAAPA, NIDA and the Arts Academy).

In addition the unique singing and acting classes have proved to be hugely popular, with thousands of children heading through its doors.  Exitleft’s signature techniques have contributed to an improvement in the standard of singing, acting and performance throughout southern Tasmania.

ExitLeft’s theatrical credits include being the only Tasmanian company to stage large scale productions at the Derwent Entertainment Centre. The most notable of which saw more than 20,000 patrons witness Australian icon Debra Byrne reprise her role as Grizabella in CATS. They most recently staged an intimate production of Les Misérables directed by national director Chris Parker at the Playhouse Theatre.

A WORD FROM THE PRINCIPAL

“Growing up, I was fortunate to be taught by some of Hobart’s most influential music makers.

They showed me no single teacher has all the answers. In fact, young performers often learn best when being mentored by performers and musicians close to their own age. At ExitLeft we teach using a method heavily based on the style of Hobart piano doyen, Eileen Johnson.

Eileen used a mentoring program where senior students worked as practice buddies, encouraging beginners and becoming better players themselves. Not only did I learn so much, but I made great friends and was inspired by the older kids.”

I am proud to say that ExitLeft students are known for their high level performance skills, ability to work in a team, calmness under pressure and being creative on demand.

IN THE COMMUNITY

You can often see us out and about in the community providing expert training in music, drama and performance skills to a wide range of schools, community groups and businesses. One week we might be performing at the Christmas Pageant, the next running a pre-school music session at your local Launch into Learning. Our staff could be running a drama holiday workshop, starring in a big musical or providing seasonal entertainment throughout greater Hobart.
