How do you measure a year?
Rent was staged at the Theatre Royal, Hobart. With an expanded ensemble, Rent featured Scott Farrow (Roger), Glenn Jeffrey (Mark), Michelle Howell (Mimi), Nicole Simms (Maureen), Andrew Casey (Collins), Cleve Schupp (Angel) and Astrid Leslie (Joanne) in the principal roles.
A contemporary rock musical with music and lyrics by Johnathan Larson, Rent is based on Puccini's opera La boheme. It is a year in the life of a New York community of artists, writers and musicians struggling to cope with life, love and loss. Roger is trying to write his perfect song, and has not left the apartment in six months until he meets the tragic Mimi... his flatmate Mark is trying to create his perfect film but can't seem to connect to the world around him. All around them their friends come together and fall apart as they strive to find happiness at the end of the millennium.
