High School Musical was presented arena style at the Derwent Entertainment Centre, complete with baskeball court, live band and a cast of more than 130. Featuring Debra Byrne as Ms Darbus, the show starred Ben Paine as Troy, Ella Burns as Gabriella, Imogen Moore as Sharpay, Alex Wyatt as Ryan, Alex Given as Chad, Etenesh Bell as Taylor and Emma Wolfe as Kelsi. A contemporary musical based on the much-loved Disney movie of the same name, High School Musical is the story of Troy, a popular high school baskeball star and Gabriella, a shy, academically gifted newcomer who discover they share a passion for singing. When they sign up to audition for the lead roles in the school musical it threatens the rigid social order and sends the school into an uproar. In a desperate attempt to maintain the status quo, the 'jocks', 'brainiacs' and even the drama club are soon hatching convoluted plots to separate the pair and keep them off stage.
